Rover review

Rover.com is a platform that links pet parents to a nationwide community of loving and trustworthy pet sitters and dog walkers. It was founded by Greg Gottesman and Philip Kimmey in 2011 when they discovered the need for pet caretakers whenever pet parents are out of town or travelling.

Rover is headquartered in Greater Seattle Area, West Coast, Western US and continues to provide service to pet parents in finding and booking pet-loving neighbourhood care. Through the platform, personalized dog care service like dog boarding, pet sitting, dog walking, doggy daycare, drop-in visits and house sitting can be booked.

While these services are rendered to pet parents, people who love to be with dogs get the opportunity to not only play with them but get paid for their time spent in taking care of them. This is an interesting way to get paid for spending time with the pet you love.

But how does a pet parent get this service and how do dog lovers make money working with Rover? Stick around and let’s find out.

How Does Rover Work?

As stated earlier, Rover.com serves as an intermediary for pet parents and sitters. Both pet owners and sitters have to create a free account on the platform to get started.

How Do You Get Started As A Sitter?

Create Your Profile

Rover considers you as an individual contractor when you’re accepted so before you sign up, you should be 18 years and above.

The sign-up process requires your personal details not excluding your zip code because Rover is available to only Canada, Us, Spain and the UK. After that head to your dashboard and complete your Sitter Profile.

How Do You Make Money With Rover As A Sitter

Rover offers quite several ways to make make money babysitting cats and dogs at your own convenient time.

Dog Boarding: This is one of the highest paying options you can find on Rover. As a sitter, you’re required to take care of the dog in your house overnight.

House Sitting: You stay overnight in the house of the pet parent to babysit dog or cat. So you must be willing to sleepover in someone’s house if you like this option.

Doggy Day Care: This is more like dropping a child at school and leaving for work. The pet parent will leave the dog with you in the morning and pick it up in the evening.

Dog Walking: You’re required to take at least 30-minute walk with the dog around the neighbourhood of the dog parent. To avoid incurring cost yourself, you should be staying within the same vicinity of the dog parent. You can check out this article to learn how dog walkers are found.

Drop-In Visits: Here, you visit the home of the pet parent for at least 30 minutes to feed and play with the pet.

Refer a Friend: Rover rewards you a promo code of $20 if you invite a friend who uses their platform as either a pet parent or sitter. This is a great way to increase your earnings on the platform if you have friends who own or love dogs and cats.

You’ll find your referral link on your dashboard which you can share either through email or any social network. You receive payment after your referral has completed his or her first booking.

How Much Money Can You Make With Rover?

On the average, you make $25 per booking but it’s subject to vary depending on the type of service and the location. While some can even earn you below the $25, you can as well earn as high as $80 or more depending on the conditions.

With Rover, you can specify your own rates based on your experience and the quality of service you offer. In addition, the following cases such as holidays, additional dog, extended stay, Puppy, Pick-Up and Drop-Off make you extra bucks.

How Do You Get Paid On Rover?

Rover offers you two payment options to withdraw your money. For US users, you can withdraw through check and PayPal while Canadians can withdraw only through PayPal.

The PayPal options take 1-4 days at no extra fees while checks take 5 business days to process and up to 20 days to see it in your bank account. It also comes with a charge of $2.

The video below explains how to withdraw your money with the app.

Is Rover A Scam Or Legit?

From my thorough search with the internet and other platforms, Rover appears to do well in connecting pet parents with pet sitters within their local area. However, there are sharp contrasting comments from both pet parents and sitters which makes it clear that the platform needs more room for improvement in the recruitment and vetting process.

With that said, it will be a harsh conclusion to make that they’re a scam. Besides, they’ve been online since 2011 which passes the legit consideration because they’ve been in operation for more than a year.

What you have to note is that some bookings can earn you good money while others may incur you more cost. Other platforms like Respondent can make you decent money just with your computer or smartphone and no cost involved.

Conclusion

Getting paid to play, feed, walk with and babysit pets you love should be a fun-filled adventure to invest your free time in. Rover is one of the growing platforms to get you linked up although there are some issues which I believe would be handled with time.

However, considering these two sides will be of help if you intend to make money with this platform.

Pros

  • Make money being with the pet you love at your own convenient time
  • Set your own rates according to your profile
  • Their mobile app makes it easy to use and connect with pet providers

Cons

  • The standard charging rate of Rover.com is low
  • It’s not available in all countries
  • Involves active work and can’t generate passive income from it
  • It may take a long time to get your first booking
  • You’re not insured against any accident as pet sitter or walker
