TryMyUI Review

TryMyUI is a usability online testing platform that enables website and app developers to get feedback from real users. Like most usability testing sites, it’s intended to find out loopholes in these applications thereby strengthening their brand to match up with their competitors.

It was launched in May 2010 by Farhad Farzaneh and Sani ElFishawy and is based in California, USA. The main features of this online platform are remote and mobile user testing, prototype testing, written impressions and survey all geared towards providing quality feedback to their clients to improve their products.

 So in effect, this platform brings developers and testers in one place whereby a tester spends some time doing what he normally does online following some tasks and get paid while the developer gets the feedback for product improvement. It’s a simple as that. TryMyUI as a bridging platform pays you a percentage of the amount the developers pay to get their product tested so quality and real opinions are required to make money as a tester.

How Does TryMyUI Really Work?

TryMyUI gets offers from clients which are then sent to testers through their email based on the demographics and user profiles. But before you receive an email from TryMyUI, you should have signed up at no monetary cost with their online forms.

After providing your details, you then take a qualification test to not only test the things needed to provide quality feedback to their clients but get a rating in terms of your testing performance. This is your determining point to whether you’re going to make money with this platform or not. It’s required because clients pay as much as $35 to get their product tested so quality feedback is relevant here.

So as a qualified tester, you receive an invite through your mail when there is an offer. You follow the link and do the following;

Download the test file: this contains all tasks and instructions to follow in order to provide what the clients need. The best thing is to review everything and if possible print it out before starting the test whiles having all your required tools set up.

Go to the website: Now you proceed to the site and provide your thoughts based on the guidelines provided. You’re encouraged to flow naturally and provide constructive comments not skipping your required tasks and instructions. You don’t try to impress them saying everything is ok.

You then get paid on every Friday if your test is approved by the client.

No one is perfect for a start so as a first-timer, you would want to do a few trials yourself to make the best out of your invites. Watch this for a feel of it.

What I Need To Get Started?

To be accepted as a tester on TryMyUI platform, you have to be 18 years and above. In addition, you should be Able to speak your thought out loud and clear, having the following as well;

  • A Personal Computer (Mac with OSX 10.11 or higher OR Windows 7 or higher)
  • A high-speed internet access
  • A standard internet browser program (Internet explorer, Chrome, Firefox, Safari)
  • A Working built in microphone
  • Webcam
  • Smartphone or Tablet

How Much Money Can You Earn?

The total amount of money one can make in a month is uncertain because the number of invites you receive is limited. Your earning here is dependent on how often clients bring their projects to be tested and the number of invites you receive. Typically, you’re paid $10 for every usability testing that you’re approved of which usually takes 20 minutes. Payments are done on Fridays when clients approve your test.

This implies that this platform can’t make you rich overnight because it’s only a side attraction thing that your livelihood can’t depend on. It just for extra income because you might get a test or 4 in a month. If you want to make a significant amount of money in a month, you might want to increase your options.

Respondent can pay you an average of $140 per approved survey while similar sites of TryMyUI such as UserTesting, Userlytics, UserFeel can add $10-$20 to your earnings.

What I Like About TryMyUI?

While TryMyUI can’t generate you a consistent income for your wallet, it can be a side income stream to your main one. With that said, I like this opportunity because;

#1 Save your Credit Card and join for free

It doesn’t require any money to become a tester. All that is required is your details and a qualification test to earn the trust of the platform that you have the capability to provide quality feedback to the client. In my opinion, you have nothing to lose except your time if you try it.

#2 Good Payment Testimonial

They’ve not only been in the system for long but has a good report from most users for their timely and consistent payment although offers don’t come in often. This makes it a good sign to try. They issue payment through PayPal which is a bit reliable.

#3 NO experience is required

You don’t need to undergo an experience check before you’re granted access to the usability testing. However, qualification test is required for your first rating by TryMyUI to build your profile for invites. So all that you need is a personal polish to put yourself on the forefront of invitations.

#4 Accessible in all countries

Anywhere you’re in the world, you can be a tester but you need to bear in mind that some offers are demographic specific and that your location might matter. That will also affect the number of invites you receive.

The Downside of TryMyUI

Even as you join for free doesn’t guarantee you success with this platform. Yes!, it’s extra income making opportunity but you’ll be disappointed if you don’t note the following down before joining;

>> Low rating, no invitation

You need to get it registered in your mind that the amount you can make with this platform is tied to your ratings. When your qualification test gets a low rating, it implies that you’ll not make it to the invitation list. Everyone wants quality service. Don’t you? Likewise, TryMyUI wants to deliver the best to their clients.

Furthermore, clients also rate you after assessing your submitted feedback. When the quality is low, you get a low rating and thus you might not get approved. This implies no payment and the test is passed on to another user. Consequently, you might not be invited for any offer again.

>> You may not make any money

The money you make is dependent on projects that clients need feedback on. So if there are no projects, there wouldn’t be invitation even for highly rated testers. Also, the offers are limited so invitations have a short time for availability. Since they’re sent out to all qualified testers, it becomes first-click, first-take so you would have to put on a special alert so that you don’t miss any invitation.

Hence, with the limited invitations and rush game, you might not have a test in a month or more and thus no money for you.

>> Qualification test is a requirement

Failure to pass your qualification test means you have no business on the platform. Some have complained of long hours of approval for qualification test. It’s been the bane of many testers on most usability testing platforms. However, it shouldn’t be a deterrent to your trying because this is in place to ensure that you have all that it takes to make the extra income.

It’s a challenge you have to overcome but if you don’t want that, then you might want to try Respondent, PointsPrizes and Clixsense.

Is TryMyUI a Scam or Legit?

TryMyUI has been online since 2010 which passes the legit criteria. So, undoubtedly it’s not a scam considering the good reports on payments aside from the bitter experience of a few testers in some cases. Sure, no platform can please everyone fully so there’s got to be one or two complaints but that doesn’t make it a scam.

thumbs up

However, this can only make you extra income but not something that you can draw your budget on. You can’t really depend on this to provide you with a better life unless you want to try a number of options to maximize your monthly earning.

You can start with Respondent, PointsPrizes, Clixsense and supplement with UserTesting, Userlytics and UserFeel

But if you want to make a passive income where money consistently drips into your wallet every month, then you should be interested in building your own business online. Check out my #1 recommended way to do it for FREE.

Final Thoughts - Is TryMyUI Worth Your Time?

You’ve come a long way to this point where you should be able to decide for yourself which side to fall on. TryMyUI is a legit platform with good payment record suitable for making some extra bucks. However, your decision to burn some time on the platform should consider how much money you want to make and for how long you’re going to continue with them to make a significant income.

Worth your time

You’re also to note that, this opportunity requires active work in order to make money which can’t be a reliable source of income for a better future. I sometimes try these sites as a multi-stream income searcher but I prefer spending much time on platforms that help me to build a passive income online. Most successful people prefer residual income than that requiring active work all the time.

If you have that interest too then you might want to check my recommended way of doing that or you can follow me to the training which is helping me create passive income part time working from home. You can start yours for FREE and put your credit card away.
