Are you seeking to make money online while working at home or do you want to add to your income stream and wondering whether UserTesting is a sure way to make it or a scam to write off? It’s understandable to be skeptical and I congratulate you for doing your due diligence before diving into this system.
In this review, I will not only be providing you with information on what UserTesting is about but will help you assess the earning potential of this platform if it proves not to be a scam. Let’s get straight to it!
What is UserTesting About?
Business name: UserTesing
Founders: Darrell Benatar and Dave Garr
Website: usertesting.com
Platform Type: Get Paid To Test
Price: $0.00
My Overall Rating: 7 out of 10
UserTesting is one of the popular make-money work-at-home platforms that claim to reward users by testing websites or apps of their sponsors. In short, it’s a get paid to test platform serving as a bridge between developers of apps, games, or websites and testers who offer their opinions based on tasks given in exchange for money.
UserTesting has been in the system since 2007 and was co-founded by Darrell Benatar and Dave Garr. They claim to have provided over 700,000 tests to users from several companies. As a user, they claim to help you get to know the thoughts of customers. Below is a short excerpt for its overview.
How Does UserTesting Really Work?
UserTesting, as a usability test provider, receives offers from developers. The desire of the developers is to assess their product navigation for its improvement before or after launch. This is where testers like you and me come into action to provide feedback on product usability and clarity. When that is achieved, you get paid. It’s pretty much easy, right?
As a tester, you’re required to give candid feedback via video and audio pointing out things that make the site uneasy to use. The test usually takes 10-20 min whiles others can take less or more time which brings variations in the earnings.
They claim to provide tests from developers of these companies;
- Zendesk
- Apple
- Evernote
- Adobe
- Microsoft
- eBay
- Dropbox
- Yahoo
- Wikipedia
- Rbitz
To start making money with this, you have to sign up with your email and follow their instruction to set up. However, you have to do a qualification test to assess your testing ability before you’re given testing offers. The qualification test may take 2 days for validation.
What Do You Need To Start?
Before taking up the qualification test, you should be at least 18 years and be able to express your thoughts aloud in English. In addition, you should have the following;
- A Personal Computer (Mac or Windows 7 and above)
- A reliable internet connection
- PC microphone
- Tablets or Smartphones (Android or Apple)
- Web camera
In addition to these, you should be able to download their testing software in order to get started.
How Much Can You Earn With UserTesting?
While UserTesting has proven to be one of the ways to earn some extra money online, you can’t be rich with the site. You earn $10 for every 10-20 mins evaluation that you do on a website, app, or game. Some tests might take a short time which can earn you $3 whiles others take more than 20 mins to earn you more.
You’re to, however, note that the companies might not be having a series of projects all the time so the test might be in short supply. Usually, the test comes in every 2 hours or even more than that you might even end up not earning anything in a day.
Also, your demographic affects the number of tests that will be available to you. You get paid through PayPal and you receive it exactly 7 days after completing a website or app testing.
If you want a platform where you’re assured of daily offers to make an extra income, then you might want to check out Clixsense and PointsPrizes.
What I Like About UserTesting.
It’s FREE to join
All that you need is an email to sign up and a computer having all the required tools to get started. There is no money required to be a tester and that makes it a low-risk opportunity to try.
Good Payment History
Not only are they keeping to their promise of payment but abiding by the exact time after 7 days. Once your test is accepted, you’re not denied payment and some people are making as much as $200 a month.
Flexible Schedule & Relatively small time to complete a test
You can choose anytime that is suitable for you to take a test provided they’re available. You’re not required to stay online the whole day on the platform unless you have nothing to do and don’t want to miss any tests. This makes it suitable for work-at-home opportunities. However, UserTesting is available from Mon – Fri (8:30 am – 9 pm)
In addition, the time commitment is not that much for $10. It’s far more than what PTC sites can offer you even for a month. So, it makes a cool extra income earning platform.
PayPal Payment System
This payment is available in most countries so it makes things a bit easier. Also, using PayPal makes it a bit trustworthy platform because they don’t usually deal with fake businesses.

Complaints Against UserTesting
You might not make even a dime
You get paid when you have a test to take. There are cases where you never get an offer due to your demographic or the unavailability of projects. So, you can go a day or even months without having a testing offer. Sometimes, others get to pick the test before you could click on so you have to be on the alert all the time.
You’re required to take Screening questions
After taking your qualification test, you’re given about 5 questions for any testing offer you receive. This can be sometimes annoying as you never get qualified whiles the questions might be the same each time.
Your rating affects Your Earnings
After every testing that you do, you’re rated per your performance but you never get to know the basis for your rating. Some have complained about the failure of the managers of the platform on their low rating and they couldn’t provide a specific answer.
A bad rating would mean no invites for offers. The frustrations of many! Sites like Clixsense and PointsPrizes never rate you to make some extra money.
So, your target here is to ensure that you meet all requirements of tasks given to you to keep your ratings high.
Is UserTesting A Scam Or A Legit?
Undoubtedly, UserTesing is certainly not a scam despite the bitter experience of some users. The site has been in operation for more than a year and that qualifies it as legit. Others, who have worked according to instructions have earned a decent amount of money.
However, you have to note that this requires active work and timing in addition to keeping up a clean sheet that’s a good rating. Whiles UserTesting has proven potential for making extra money, you can’t actually create a passive income with it.
So, if you’re interested in making a passive income like my main income stream, then check out how I do it here.
So, Should You Join UserTesting?
If you have the time to burn for some extra money, why not? The good thing is it’s free and you wouldn’t have to commit some money to it except for your time. Now that you know the two sides of the coin about User testing, you always have to be on the alert in order not to miss a testing offer if you want to earn more.
With that said, the money you can make is limited since a number of factors come into play here – your rating and demographics. So you can’t be rich or create a residual income with it as they clearly point out. However, it can be one of your income streams.
But then again if you prefer making a residual income online, then you might want to check My one-stop platform. It’s FREE to try and requires no credit card info or any financial details.
